Playing with Thread

I've been experimenting with different weight thread. I was only using 80 weight but recently I've been working with 20, 40, and 50 weight. At first it felt like I was tatting with cord but after I got used to it I'm beginning to like the thicker weight. I especially like the size of the motifs once they're complete. I'm leaning towards the 20 weight right now. Here's a pic of some of the things I'm been experimenting with. All the threads are from Yarnplayer except the blue variegated which is DMC 80 weight. The edging is in 40 weight Snowflake color and the pattern if from Lyn Morton's book. The blue motif is also a pattern from Lyn Morton. The two pink variegated are Yarnplayer's Peace colorway and the patterns are off the internet. You can click on the image for a closer view.

I'm lucky I have a sister and friend I can send all these things to. They are both sewers and use them in there Crazy Quilting. What do you do with all the things you've tatted?

I love tatting with size 20, too! I actually love all of them. I love the way size 80 looks so tiny and delicate when all tatted up, but 20 is funner to tat with!

Hope you stop on by for my 1st Blogoversary/100th post celebration! I'm even having a giveaway! Do come on over if you haven't already! Everyone is invited!!! :)

Becky, I love the one at the top. It's so delicate. I haven't tatted in years because of my RA. I keep telling myself I should try it again now that I am on modern medicine I'm a lot better.

Seeing your tatting makes me want to go dig out my shuttle!

There are advantages and drawbacks to every size. Baby booties in size 80 might make nice ornaments but forget finding a baby to wear them. Earrings in size 10 might be interesting, but they'd be too large for me to wear. I'd go on, but it would get repetitious.

Becky these are beautiful. I love the pink yellow combination. I seen a quilt done in pink and yellow and have always wanted to do one using those same colors, and after seeing these it makes me want to use those colors even more.
Love ya, your sis Donna

Becky, they are gorgeous and i love your Easter Bunny too! I love the 80 wt but needle tatting with it is so uncomfortable because the needle bends and the thread knots up so easily, but that doesn't stop me totally, 20 and 8 are my favorite to tat with. I make jewelry with 20, 10 & 8. No matter what you do, it looks beautiful! I use my tatting on CQ blocks and I make jewelry that's about it. Oh and i have made a few ornaments too.
